Richard Bergeron, Leader of Projet Montréal, demands the governement of Québec to quickly invest in a high-level public transit infrastructure. He believes that investing in public transit holds structuring power which will benefit Montrealers for the next 50 years.

Dangerous intersection in NDG
Peter McQueen demands a bike bridge

Peter McQueen, Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Councillor, joined 100 cyclists for a rally, on June 27th, to ask that a bike and pedestrian bridge be built over the Decarie-Maisonneuve intersection, one of the most dangerous ones in Montreal. Peter McQueen has been requesting a safe solution to the borough mayor for several months.

Urban development plan for Sainte-Marie
Richard Bergeron presents a brief

On June 1st, Richard Bergeron presented a brief to Montreal's Office de consultation publique. This brief from Projet Montréal concerns the urban development plan for the Sainte-Marie district and highlights the absence of use of the river bank in the planning of a neighbourhood which could easily provide access to the river.

A busy summer in the Plateau

Plateau-Mont-Royal is moving forward with initiatives implemented a month ago in order to secure borough streets. In addition, a series of initiatives that will also improve citizens' quality of life in the borough are well underway, including the launch of Espace Lafontaine (see picture above).

Greening and quality of life
Five new green alleys

The Plateau-Mont-Royal announced, on July 6th, an investment of $137 000 for the éco-quartier Plateau-Mont-Royal to develop five new green alleys. This project is undertaken as part of the initiative by the borough to invest in greening in order to provide citizens with a better quality of life.

Urban life and nutrition
Opening of Espace Lafontaine

After two and a half years of vacancy, the old La Fontaine Park chalet restaurant has reopened in a more modern, refined and healthier way. The Plateau-Mont-Royal borough team has worked really hard in order to better develop this beautiful space which will benefit all park visitors. Espace Lafontaine opened June 9 and has already proved its success!

Humane animal management
Agreement with the SPCA

On June 7th, the agreement which the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough has negotiated with the SPCA was approved by the borough council. The agreement delegates borough animal management services to SPCA which will ensure that the borough is able to provide its citizens with more humane animal management services.

Display boards and cityscapes
Partnership with the Alliance pour la valorisation des paysages du Québec

While display boards are spanning across Quebec, the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough has joined the Alliance pour la valorisation des paysages du Québec as soon as it was launched, on June 1st. Alex Norris, Mile-End Councillor, took advantage of the event to highlight the importance for the Plateau to preserve the borough's cachet and cityscape.

Governance and citizen services
Launch of a budget simulator

As part of its commitment to consult its citizens about the borough operating budget, Plateau-Mont-Royal has launched an online tool, on May 25th, which aims to consult citizens on their budget priorities. The Plateau is very proud of this democratic exercise. You can try the tool until August 25th!

Quality of life and school's children safety
Follow-up on Laurier Project

Initiatives implemented by Plateau-Mont-Royal in order to secure borough streets have, over the past month, generated some criticism, but have also received a lot of positive feedback. The borough team is open to citizen comments and is currently planning the second phase of the Project.
