Democracy and governance
Projet Montréal's convention: a great success!

Projet Montréal's fourth convention, which was held on August 27th and 28th, was a great success. Close to 200 members participated in the event. They also expressed their confidence in the party leader, Richard Bergeron, at a level of 91,9%. The event was also marked by the adoption of the party's new governance framework and the review of party statutes. Finally, the convention saw the election of the party's new board of directors, headed by president Michel Camus.

Construction of a school in a park in Nun's Island

Although Nun's Island's citizens are criticizing the projet, Claude Trudel, mayor of Verdun, insists on going ahead with building a new school in a section of one of the island's only parks. Projet Montréal disagrees with that decision because the need for a new school should have been planned well in advance and because parks belong to the collectivity and should be preserved.

Assessment of initial interventions and new measures

On August 24th, Luc Ferrandez, mayor of Plateau-Mont-Royal, presented his assessment of initial measures undertaken to secure the borough's local streets in the Laurier East area, including those surrounding Laurier elementary school. The borough is now correcting undesired impacts brought about by initial interventions as well as securing the surroundings of Paul-Bruchési school.

Urban agriculture in Montreal
Projet Montréal in favor of a public consultation

In an effort to support Montrealers' growing interest in urban agriculture, Projet Montréal announced, on August 16, its support for a consultation on the state of urban agriculture in Montreal. Projet Montréal hopes that this consultation will allow for a communal reflection on the potential for urban agriculture in Montreal, and provide increased support to those already active in urban agriculture. Come sign the petition at the party office!

Structures of the City of Montreal
Projet Montréal wants to see inspection reports

After a slab of concrete collapsed in the Ville-Marie tunnel, Projet Montréal argued that several of the 600 structures under the City of Montreal's responsibility are in poor condition and that resources invested to maintain these structures are insufficient. At the city council meeting held on August 22 and 23, Projet Montréal presented a motion demanding that the City of Montreal release all its inspection reports. On September 14th, mayor Gérald Tremblay released partial information, so we are still demanding that engineering reports be made available to the public.
