Montreal, a hub for sustainable transportation

Over the last 25 years, Montreal enjoyed no major investment in public transportation. As a city, it must make the transition to sustainable transportation through major investment in the maintenance and development of both its public transportation network and infrastructure that promotes pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

Our core commitments:

 Promote public transportation

  • Reduce the cost of public transport
  • Improve level and quality of service for metro and bus
  • Improve comfortability for users of public transport
  • Encourage intermodality (the use of more than one means of transportation)

Encourage walking and biking

  • Develop infrastructure that facilitates walking or biking
  • Provide additional bike paths
  • Create green neighbourhoods
  • Implement traffic-easing measures

Develop a coherent parking policy

  • Cede parking priority to residents
  • Recreate parking lots
  • Adjust rates and schedule of parking meters

Major projects

  • Set up rail shuttle towards airport
  • Create a complete tramway network
  • Review sustainability of highway projects
  • Support TGV project (high-speed train)
