A new police station for Rivière-des-Prairies, the addition of cameras, the creation of an action plan on urban security: the mayor of Rivière-des-Prairies-Pointe-aux-Trembles, Caroline Bourgeois, has presented several local measures to bring back peace and the feeling of security to the borough's citizens

"The events of the last few months have shaken the citizens' sense of security and it is essential for me to continue to work towards bringing back peace of mind, especially in the Rivière-des-Prairies neighbourhood. We have a clear local security plan that I am proud of and that will bring concrete results," said mayoral candidate and outgoing mayor Caroline Bourgeois.

New police station in Rivière-des-Prairies

"I am proud that the Projet Montréal administration has saved the Rivière-des-Prairies police station by putting an end to Denis Coderre's plan to merge the Pointe-aux-Trembles and Rivière-des-Prairies police stations," says Caroline Bourgeois.

The Projet Montréal administration has renewed the lease of Neighborhood Station 45 (RDP) until 2024, but now we need to go further. "We are committed to providing Rivière-des-Prairies with a new neighbourhood station that will better respond to today's realities and the needs of our police force," says Caroline Bourgeois.

Surveillance cameras

To reassure the population and give our police officers a greater investigative capacity, Caroline Bourgeois wants to work with the SPVM to add cameras in strategic locations in the neighbourhood.

Urban security table

Set up by the borough under the impetus of Caroline Bourgeois, the brand new Rivière-des-Prairies-Pointe-aux-Trembles Urban Security Table will continue its mission in a second mandate. "The objective of this table is to create a concerted action plan between all the players in the neighbourhood to address security problems. The borough's dynamic forces are mobilized at this table and I believe very much in the benefits its concerted effort," says Caroline Bourgeois.

New space for youth in Rivière-des-Prairies

In collaboration with the community of Rivière-des-Prairies, Team Caroline Bourgeois wishes to provide the Rivière-des-Prairies neighbourhood with a new space for young people to meet and develop their full potential. "Our youth in RDP deserve a place to grow and find their way. We need to invest in our youth if we want to prevent crime in the long term," says Ms. Bourgeois.

A Reminder that the Pointe-aux-Trembles neighborhood set up a youth space in 2018 with the construction of the Maison des jeunes Desjardins de Pointe-aux-Trembles, located across from Daniel-Johnson High School on Tricentenaire Boulevard, a central axis of the neighborhood.

More park wardens

Carried out by the administration of Caroline Bourgeois in 2019, the pilot project of park guards in the major parks of the borough has been a great success: "In addition to improving the sense of security for users, it also allows for better maintenance of our parks," she says. I am committed to making the pilot project of park wardens permanent, and to adding even more."

"Armand Bombardier Park, in the heart of the RDP neighbourhood, will become home to a park warden, among other things, thanks to the construction of the chalet, another project finalized by us year," says Bourgeois.

The local urban security plan of Team Caroline Bourgeois complements the one announced last week by the mayor of Montreal, which will provide funding for the SPVM over four years and renew the special squads in their fight against crimes involving firearms, such as ELTA (fight against arms trafficking) or the squad ÉCLIPSE (criminal groups). A total investment of $110 million that gives our police officers the means to act.
