Projet Montréal is committed to making the next few winters more lively in Montréal, so that the city can come alive during the cold season, so that Montrealers have more recreational options and to attract winter tourism. The Mayor of Montréal and leader of Projet Montréal, Valérie Plante, and Mr. Jocelyn Pauzé, City Councillor for the Marie-Victorin district in the Rosemont-La Petite Patrie borough, presented 7 commitments that represent an investment of more than 3 million dollars over the next mandate.

Commitments

1st commitment: To increase the network of trails in the city's local parks this winter, for winter hiking.

2nd commitment: Also this winter, better equip parks throughout the city to facilitate outdoor activities over a longer period of time.

  • For example, have more snow canons and groomers for the sledding hills.
  • Offer more rental equipment for winter sports such as skating, field hockey, skiing, sledding and many others.

3rd commitment: Create new cross-country ski trails to accommodate the growing popularity of this sport.

  • Starting next winter:
    • A 3.5 km trail will be inaugurated at Frédéric Back Park in the La Plaine sector.
    • And another 4 km trail will be opened at Parc de la Traversée, in Rivière-des-Prairies-Pointe-aux-Trembles.

4th commitment: Build a brand new multi-kilometre ice trail in the Parc-nature de la Pointe-aux-Prairies, in Pointe-aux-Trembles, where young and old will be able to skate in the forest by the end of the next mandate.

5th commitment: To allow restaurants to heat their terraces during the cold season.

6th commitment: Make Parc Jean-Drapeau a winter outdoor destination with an urban ski hill accessible to all, among other things.

7th commitment: Support festivals, cultural events and public space animation that take place in winter.

Quotes

"We know Montréal as one of the most festive cities in the world in the summer. My team and I want Montréal to be one of the most festive and interesting cities in the world in the winter. We want to celebrate our nordic nature, take advantage of the abundant snow and offer even more opportunities for Montrealers to gather, do activities and practice winter sports," said Valérie Plante, Mayor of Montréal and leader of Projet Montréal.

"With these measures, Projet Montréal wants to celebrate the northern nature of Montréal. We want families, but also people of all ages, to make the most of winter sports and come together more often to dance, sing, talk, laugh and celebrate. So that we can show the world what we're made of in Montréal in the winter," added Jocelyn Pauzé, City Councillor for the Marie-Victorin district in the Rosemont-La Petite Patrie borough.
