Yong-Fat Chau is the eldest son of a Cambodian family who immigrated to Canada to escape the Khmer Rouge regime. His family experienced war and poverty. Yong-Fat holds a Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering from École de Technologie Supérieur and owns an Asian restaurant in Montreal. He lives in the St-Michel district with his wife and two sons. He loves his neighborhood.
With a desire to work on developing social projects to help immigrant families, he is trying to improve the living conditions of citizens in St-Michel by fighting against poverty and inequality. Yong-Fat supports local businesses for a better social economy, being an entrepreneur himself. St-Michel is a dynamic and pleasant neighborhood to raise a family. He wants to emphasize cleanliness while promoting the creation of public spaces. He also wants to encourage street pedestrianization and provide safe places for family recreation, such as parks. He plans to address racism and discrimination against visible minorities.
Yong-Fat is entering politics with a belief in advocating for citizens on social issues, while promoting sustainable development. No one should be afraid to walk around their neighbourhood at any time of the day. The Police must be more respectful of citizens' rights. Sports and recreation spaces must be of high quality and accessible to citizens of all ages. He is running for office to assert the rights of the citizens of St-Michel in order to offer them better conditions for their families.
