That's why I chose a career based on social justice values: nursing. In my work, I've seen people's suffering on a daily basis. I've seen how the failings of the healthcare system have a serious impact on people's lives. At that moment, something in me needed to act, to do more to improve the lives of the people who use our hospitals. I realized that to do that, I had to have an impact on the system so that I could help people better. This call, this need to do more to help others, comes from deep within me.
It's the same call that drove me to enter politics in 2021. You know, I haven't always been a fan of municipal politics. I'm first and foremost a citizen who has seen and experienced the changes brought about by Projet Montréal. You've seen it as I have, the decisions made by the city directly affect people's lives. When we do it right, it changes their quality of life and gives them back their dignity. I see it every day in my work as mayor of CDN-NDG: when your neighborhood is clean, when it's well cared for, when you can get around safely, you feel at home, and you love your home. And that's what I want for all Montrealers. I want us to love our Montreal.
We deserve a city that takes care of its world, and I know that our movement is capable of creating that city. It's already doing so. And it's our duty to continue doing so. That's why I'm running for the leadership of Projet Montréal. Because I believe deeply in our movement and in its ability to grow. Because I want to continue building this city with you. Together, we will reach out to people one street corner at a time, one action at a time, with listening, empathy and compassion.
