Committees and subcommittees

WOULD YOU LIKE TO JOIN A COMMITTEE OR SUBCOMMITTEE?


Joining a Projet Montréal committee means participating in making Montréal an ever more inclusive city. The goal of these committees is to encourage the participation of historically excluded groups in political life and to influence our governing bodies to reflect the full diversity of Montréal. There are three committees: the Youth Committee, the Women's Committee and the Diversity Committee. The Diversity Committee itself is made up of four subcommittees: Accessibility and Persons with Disabilities, Ethno-Cultural, LGBTQ+, Reconciliation and Tiohtià:ke Aboriginal.


COMMITTEE MANDATES


YOUTH COMMITTEE


The mission of the Youth Committee is to encourage Montrealers between the ages of 16 and 30 to participate in the militant life of the Party and to ensure that our governing bodies actively promote the participation of this group. Specifically, the committee's mandate is to


  1. Ensure the vitality and dynamism of the Youth Committee;

  2. Ensure that strategies are put in place to encourage this population to participate both in the life of our party and in civic action, including voting;

  3. Consult and raise awareness of young people around municipal issues;

  4. Recruit youth to participate in their boroughs and in the governing bodies of our party.


​​To be an active member of the Youth Committee, you must be between the ages of 16 and 30 inclusively. This defines the term "population" used in the mandate of this committee.

WOMEN'S COMMITTEE


The mission of the Women's Committee is to encourage the participation of Montreal women who identify partially or fully with the female gender in the militant life of the Party, and to ensure that our governing bodies actively promote the participation of this group. Specifically, the committee's mandate is to


  1. Ensure the vitality and dynamism of the Women's Committee;

  2. Ensure that parity is achieved and maintained within the party's bodies;

  3. Have a tangible impact on Montreal's communities, non-partisan organizations and citizens, while establishing a system of collaboration with them;

  4. Become a point of reference for Montrealers in the feminist struggle;

  5. Ensure the continuity of the committee through writings and events;

  6. Influence the party's decision-making bodies so that feminist issues are taken into account when decisions are made;

  7. Promote work-life balance and safety issues;

  8. Ensure that women's voices are included in public and governmental discussions;

  9. Ensure that equality is respected in all areas;

  10. Expand the Committee's reach through activities, events and information sessions aimed at increasing women's knowledge of democracy and politics while ensuring their empowerment;

  11. Increase the participation of Aboriginal women, women from diverse backgrounds and women with disabilities.

  12. Modify party practices and procedures to facilitate women's participation in all party bodies;

  13. Ensure that harassment of women in all its forms is not tolerated within party structures.

DIVERSITY COMMITTEE


The mission of the Diversity Committee is to encourage Montrealers of all backgrounds to participate in the militant life of the Party and to ensure that our governing bodies actively promote the participation of this group. It is also made up of 4 sub-committees: accessibility and people with disabilities, ethno-cultural, LGBTQ+ and, reconciliation and Tiohtià:ke's Aboriginal Peoples. Specifically, the Committee's mandate is to:


  1. Ensure the presence, visibility, implementation and recruitment of people from Montreal's diverse backgrounds and communities within the party's governing bodies;

  2. Ensure that Montreal's diversity is represented on all PM bodies and in its electoral slates;

  3. Ensure that the party makes anti-discrimination training mandatory and that it is systematically and widely provided to all members holding key positions in the party's various bodies, as well as to permanent staff;

  4. Adopt a Diversity and Inclusion Election Program for submission to the Board of Directors;

  5. Assist Local Borough Associations (LBAs) in achieving parity and recruiting members from diverse backgrounds.

ACCESSIBILITY AND PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES SUBCOMMITTEE


The mandate of the Accessibility and Disability Subcommittee is to:


  1. Ensure the vitality and dynamism of the Accessibility and Disability Subcommittee;

  2. Ensure that the members of this group are included in the decision-making bodies of the Party;

  3. Ensure that strategies are put in place to encourage members of this group to participate both in the democratic life of our political party and in civic action;

  4. Ensure that strategies are put in place to encourage political participation by members of this group to ensure representation in local elections;

  5. Participate in the development of an electoral platform that addresses issues of concern to members of this group;

  6. Mobilize party members and bodies around issues of accessibility and ableism;

  7. Ensure that the party is committed to raising awareness and eliminating prejudice against people with disabilities (ableism).

ETHNIC AND CULTURAL SUBCOMMITTEE


The definition of "visible minority" is that set forth in the Employment Equity Act.


The Ethno-Cultural Subcommittee is mandated to:


  1. Ensure the vitality and dynamism of the Ethno-Cultural Subcommittee;

  2. Ensure the inclusion of members from cultural communities in the party's governing bodies;

  3. Ensure that strategies are put in place to encourage members of these communities to participate in the democratic life of Projet Montréal and in civic action;

  4. Ensure that strategies are put in place to encourage the political participation of members of these communities to ensure their representation in municipal elections;

  5. Participate in the development of an electoral platform on issues affecting members of these communities;

  6. Ensure that a program is put in place to identify the next generation of members from cultural communities and visible minorities, and that this work is done in conjunction with the ALAs;

  7. Ensure that the party invests in intercultural awareness training for its representatives at all levels of the party.


This awareness-raising should, among others, enable the gradual integration of members from cultural communities and visible minorities into party bodies.

LGBTQ+ SUBCOMMITTEE


The mandate of the LGBTQ+ Subcommittee is to:


  1. Ensure the vitality and dynamism of the LGBTQ+ Subcommittee;

  2. Ensure the inclusion of members of the LGBTQ+ community in party bodies;

  3. Ensure that strategies are put in place to encourage members of this community to participate in both the democratic life of our political party and in civic action;

  4. Ensure that strategies are put in place to encourage the political participation of members of the LGBTQ+ community to ensure representation in local elections;

  5. Ensure that homophobia and transphobia are not tolerated within party structures.

RECONCILIATION AND INDIGENOUS PEOPLE SUBCOMMITTEE


The mandate of the Tiohtià:ke Reconciliation and Indigenous Peoples Subcommittee is to:


  1. Ensure the vitality and dynamism of the subcommittee;

  2. Ensure the inclusion of members from these communities in the party's governing bodies;

  3. Ensure that strategies are put in place to encourage community members to participate in the democratic life of Projet Montréal and in civic action;

  4. Ensure that strategies are put in place to encourage the political participation of community members to ensure representation in municipal elections;

  5. Participate in the development of an electoral platform on issues of concern to community members.
