From August 22 to 25, pedestrianization is in full swing on Monkland Street! All you have to do is stroll down the street to see that it's a tremendous success. So why not go one step further and pedestrianize Monkland all summer long? Like many other local residents, we think it's time NDG had its own pedestrian street, and not just 4 days a year.
Based on a model that has already proven successful in several Montreal neighborhoods, pedestrianizing Monkland Street would provide a safe space for families, pedestrians, cyclists and people with reduced mobility, promoting a relaxing and social environment for all. In addition, by making Monkland Street accessible only to pedestrians, we would encourage residents and visitors to explore local businesses. This would increase pedestrian traffic and, consequently, sales for the street's stores, restaurants and cafés.
We firmly believe that the summer pedestrianization of Monkland Street would benefit our community and greatly contribute to improving the quality of life in NDG as well as the economic vitality of our neighborhood.
