Concerned about making life easier for Montreal families, Projet Montréal intends to save them $1,100 per year during its second mandate.

The leader of Projet Montréal, Valérie Plante, and the incumbent mayor of Ahuntsic--Cartierville, Émilie Thuillier, explained that these savings will be achieved through :

  • A 50% reduction in STM fares for 12 to 17 year olds, from $54 to $27 per month. For a family with two teenagers, this represents an annual savings of $648;
  • The differentiated rate for which Projet Montréal wants to implement for residential municipal taxes. For a middle-class family, this represents an annual savings of about $452.

The differential tax rate will give a tax reduction to middle-class homeowners by shifting some of the residential tax burden to the most expensive homes.

The differential tax rate for small businesses has proven to be very effective. Buildings under $750,000 have benefited from tax reductions of 16% over the past 4 years. No less than 90% of businesses have benefited from this measure.

"The cost of living is constantly rising, and we know that families work hard for their money. That's why Projet Montréal wants to save them $1,100 a year through concrete measures that will put more money in their pockets. Our team makes quality of life for families a priority in all spheres of Montreal life. These savings are proof that we want to go even further to support them. - Valérie Plante, leader of Projet Montréal

"Projet Montréal has a complete program to support Montreal families. From free STM service for children 11 and under, to a 50% discount for 12 to 17 year olds, to the Welcome Baby Box, to programs to help people access home ownership, to the new program to build sports fields on vacant lots, to the addition of a ninth week of day camps, our team is deploying a range of solutions to make life easier for Montreal families and will always work to improve their quality of life." - Émilie Thuillier, incumbent mayor of Ahuntsic--Cartierville
