Committed to greening and revitalizing the Village des Rapides area, the City of Montreal and the Borough of LaSalle are reserving a municipal public parking lot for conversion into a park. The lot, strategically located at the corner of 2nd Avenue and Rue Centrale, will become a lively place, right next to the commercial street.
“In laboratory mode, the Borough of LaSalle and the City of Montreal intend to test the community's needs for this new space. By rallying the population around the park project, we hope together to prefigure a lasting vocation for the site,” emphasized Robert Beaudry, responsible for urban planning on the City of Montreal's executive committee.
“Converting the zoning of this parking lot into a green space fits perfectly with the orientation an ecological transition for a green and resilient future of LaSalle's 2023-2030 strategic planning. In addition to the commercial revitalization efforts deployed by the borough and the business community, this project is in line with our desire to revitalize neighbourhood life and propose sustainable initiatives while creating islands of freshness,” noted LaSalle borough mayor Nancy Blanchet.
The schedule calls for a design phase in 2025, followed by the start of construction in the fall of the same year. The specific details of the planned developments will be determined during the design phase.
