Saint-Laurent

Saint-Laurent is a dynamic and diverse borough. A hub of innovation, with its cutting-edge industrial and technological center and two CEGEPs, it also embodies the cultural richness of the metropolis thanks to its population from all corners of the world. Here, young people grow up in welcoming schools, families enjoy green spaces and communities come together around solidarity initiatives. In a nutshell, Saint-Laurent represents the vision of an inclusive, sustainable and equitable city: a place where the local economy thrives, where active and collective mobility takes root and where every citizen has a place.

Projet Montréal

Local Platform – Saint-Laurent 2025

Active and safe mobility

  1. Install speed cameras in front of the borough's 13 elementary schools.
  2. Permanently secure the pedestrian and bicycle path on Henri-Bourassa Boulevard under the REM viaduct.
  3. Promote active mobility by deploying more protected cycling infrastructure.

    Sports and Culture

    1. Double the number of public works, including installations, murals, and sculptures, giving priority to local artists.
    2. Propose roofing systems for outdoor skating rinks to protect them from the elements and sunlight, thereby extending the life and improving the quality of the ice.
    3. Begin the process of creating a performance hall with a capacity of 3,000 people.

    Neighborhood life and environment

    1. Launch a public market during the summer season at Place Rodolphe-Rousseau.
    2. Facilitate the creation of an “Espace des Possibles” (Space of Possibilities) as a third place where people can meet and organize activities.
    3. Facilitate the obtaining of bar licenses to make neighborhoods festive and dynamic.
    4. Plant more than 1,000 trees per year, prioritizing parks and public spaces with lower canopy cover.
    5. Systematically integrate the concepts of ecological transition, flood resilience, and issues of inclusion and accessibility into borough activities and the design of projects, plans, and programs.
    6. Amplify housing creation, with an emphasis on supporting and developing affordable, off-market housing so that more people can have access to a roof over their heads at a fair price.

    Civic life and democracy

    1. Develop a sense of belonging among Laurentian residents by promoting different stories about Laurentians through the borough's various communication channels.
    2. Increase the quantity and quality of open data to encourage its use by various organizations for social, environmental, and/or economic purposes.
    3. Establish a citizen commission where residents can share their ideas, identify neighborhood needs, and participate in defining projects to be carried out.
    4. Hold borough councils in different neighbourhoods each year. This approach will include, for example, organizing sessions in CEGEPs and high schools, thus offering a unique opportunity for young people and the population of these sectors to participate directly in the democratic life of the borough.
    5. Support the creation of a Youth Council in the borough.
