The Ville de Montréal is proud to submit its draft Nightlife Policy to the Commission sur le développement économique et urbain et l'habitation de la Ville de Montréal, which will hold a public consultation in February. Through this work, Montreal aims to reinforce its positioning as a festive city, prized for its vibrant nightlife and dynamic cultural scene.

Ultimately, this pivotal policy aims to revitalize nightlife in the metropolis, strengthening its economic and cultural potential, while promoting harmonious cohabitation and quality of life in the neighborhoods.

With this avant-garde and inclusive draft policy, the city is consolidating its positioning and vision for Montreal's nightlife by proposing the following actions:

  • Identify areas of nocturnal vitality in suitable sectors;
  • Offer new business opportunities to commercial and cultural partners in the nightlife economy;
  • Ensure harmonious cohabitation of populations and respect for living environments;
  • Adapt nightlife regulations, taking into account the wishes and concerns of Montrealers and partners.

The Nightlife Policy project is the fruit of rigorous work and experimentation through several pilot projects that have enabled the City to identify the best opportunities for Montreal in terms of the nighttime economy, as well as the conditions for meeting the needs of night owls and establishments, while providing quality living environments for residents.

The next steps

The Commission sur le développement économique et urbain et l'habitation de la Ville de Montréal will hold a public consultation in February. An official presentation of the policy to the general public will take place on February 13. The full consultation schedule will be made available shortly by the Commission.

The city is inviting Montrealers, commercial and cultural partners in the nightlife economy, as well as community service, health and public safety organizations to express their opinions and suggestions on the proposed orientations, and to specify the role they wish to play in implementing the policy. Once this stage has been completed, the policy will be presented to and adopted by the elected representatives of the Greater Montreal area.

"Montreal is a festive city, renowned for its nightlife and creative vitality, here and elsewhere. At the heart of this mobilizing project is the desire to preserve the city's unique vibrancy. The experience of other major cities around the world shows that nightlife is a major lever of economic, cultural and tourist vitality. We are proud to present this policy to Montrealers, as well as to our nightlife partners, who have a front-row seat and are in the best position to raise the issues and identify priorities for action," said Luc Rabouin, President of the Executive Committee, responsible for economic and commercial development, knowledge, innovation and design, and acting Human Resources Manager.
