The City of Montreal is investing $64,850 in a strategic project led by Polytechnique Montréal to create a Clean Technology Innovation Center (CITP) in the east end of the metropolis, reinforcing Montreal's position as a leader in sustainable development.

Support for the development of clean technologies

This financial contribution will enable us to carry out a business plan and design study for the Cleantech Innovation Centre (CITP). The aim of this project is to draw up a strategic plan and design study for the creation of a center dedicated to clean technology innovation. The CITP aims to catalyze the growth of clean technologies in the east end of Montreal and the rest of Quebec, by facilitating the maturation of projects that have passed the proof-of-concept stage.

The expected impacts of the project include the creation of new businesses, the training of highly qualified personnel, the development of processes aimed at reducing greenhouse gases and the use of primary resources.

This project is in line with the City of Montreal's commitment to promoting innovation and supporting initiatives that contribute to a more sustainable and prosperous future for all Montrealers.

“Successfully launching a technology that will have a major environmental impact requires a long development cycle,” explains Mr. Alexandru lordan, Executive Director of CITP. “By providing a technical facility that facilitates innovation and pilot-scale experimentation, and a network of experts that helps align the technology scaling and validation roadmap with business plans, we aim to facilitate and accelerate the path to commercialization and thus enable these technologies to see the light of day and have a real impact on our society, whether they originate from academic research, entrepreneurship or larger companies.”

“By supporting CITP, we are creating an environment conducive to technological innovation and the implementation of sustainable solutions to accelerate the ecological transition. This project supports the development of Montreal's East End, a priority area for our administration. The cleantech sector plays a crucial role in our economy, offering opportunities to create jobs, improve our resilience and develop innovative new products. These investments are essential to accelerate the commercialization of innovative technologies and to meet today's environmental challenges,” said Alia Hassan-Cournol, Associate Councillor for Economic Development on the Executive Committee.

“PME MTL Centre-Est is proud to contribute financially to a structuring initiative such as the business plan and design study for the Clean Technology Innovation Centre (CITP). The arrival of this knowledge and innovation hub in the east end of Montreal represents a step forward for the development of our territory, fostering the emergence of sustainable solutions, job creation and the growth of an innovative entrepreneurial ecosystem. These projects reinforce our mission to support initiatives that energize the local economy and position the East End as a driver of innovation,” emphasized Jean François Lalonde, General Manager of PME MTL Centre-Est.

Innovation hub at 5600 Hochelaga

This project will be located at 5600 Hochelaga, which is poised to become a hub of innovation. 5600 Hochelaga is also home to Lab-CiB - Laboratoire Collaboratif d'Innovation Bioalimentaire, which has benefited from a $300,000 financial contribution from the Ville de Montréal since the start of 2025. This funding is intended to support the deployment of Lab-CiB's activities and service offering to companies in the biofood sector over the next three years (2025-2027).

Lab-CiB recently took a major step forward in its development, welcoming Agathe Malécot as Director of Business Development and Operations. To mark the occasion, the organization unveiled a brand new visual identity and launched its digital platform. These changes underscore the organization's vocation as a true collaborative laboratory, where companies, organizations and institutions work together to create an innovative and sustainable biofood sector. This transformation reinforces Lab-CiB's position within a dynamic and growing ecosystem.
