The Executive Committee of the City of Montreal has adopted a resolution to acquire a vacant lot covering an area of approximately 2,500 m², located on the west side of rue Sauvé Ouest, near rue Meilleur, in the borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville. This acquisition, at a cost of $924,000, will enable the development of a new social and community housing project.

At the appropriate time, the City will resell the land to an organization committed to developing a social housing project on the site. The city estimates that some 73 housing units could eventually be built for families or individuals in vulnerable situations. This method gives a boost to housing organizations, enabling them to acquire affordable land at a good price that can be built on quickly.

"The acquisition of this land is another demonstration that the development of social and community housing is a priority for our administration. Over a hundred people will eventually benefit from social housing thanks to this purchase. This acquisition will enable an organization to purchase the land at a price below market value, which will facilitate its financial package," stated Benoit Dorais, vice-president of the City of Montreal's executive committee, responsible for housing, real estate strategy, property assessment and legal affairs.

"This is good news for the residents of Ahuntsic-Cartierville. The construction of new housing and the mixed-use nature of the project are a plus for our community. Ultimately, the project that will be built on this land will enable people to settle in the area for good and at an affordable price," noted Émilie Thuillier, who is responsible for infrastructures, buildings and asset maintenance on the executive committee and mayor of Ahuntsic-Cartierville.
