The borough of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve is proud to announce the inauguration of its brand-new skate park in Parc Raymond-Préfontaine. Located at the corner of Hochelaga and Dézéry streets, this skate park has benefited from an investment of nearly $4 million.

With a surface area of 1,700 m2, the skate park has been designed to offer evolving modules for users of all ages and abilities. The modules create safer, linear layouts that will appeal to both skateboarders and scooterists, and encourage their progression. It includes quarter ramps and a mini-ramp, slide boxes, rails, a quarter-moon and a volcano, pyramids and balance trays. These modules rise to heights of up to 1.7 metres.

The surfaces are smooth concrete, for a smoother ride and greater safety in the event of a fall.

“It's touching to see young and old alike taking up this new space! The new Raymond-Préfontaine skateboard park is already carving out a place for itself among the borough's recreational institutions. Thanks to the passion of the Montreal Skateboard Association and the expertise of our teams, the space is both resilient, with the addition of drainage ditches, and ideal for practice,” explained Pierre Lessard-Blais, borough mayor.

Raymond-Préfontaine Park is designed to handle rainfall of 450 m3, shared between two vegetated retention basins and the lowest level of the skate park. Some 30 trees have also been planted with water management in mind.

Involvement of a committee of experts

To develop a concept that would meet the expectations of skateboarders, the borough consulted a committee of experts from the Montreal Skateboard Association. In all, 14 people, including a young skateboarder, were involved in the committee.
