Accessible restrooms within 15 minutes anywhere in the city

MONTREAL, September 25, 2025 — Luc Rabouin, leader of Projet Montréal and candidate for mayor, is committed to ensuring access to clean, free public restrooms within a 15-minute walk anywhere in Montreal. This measure aims to make the city more inclusive, more user-friendly and easier to live in on a daily basis for everyone: families, seniors, workers, tourists and people experiencing homelessness.

By ensuring the availability of restrooms in parks and public places and through partnerships with supportive businesses, Projet Montréal wants to remove an often unsuspected but very real obstacle that undermines quality of life and prevents some of us from participating fully in Montreal life.

This commitment is part of our vision for a city where every Montrealer has access to essential services nearby.

To achieve this goal, Projet Montréal proposes:

  • Enhanced maintenance of existing toilets in park chalets and municipal buildings;

  • The addition of 20 self-cleaning toilets adapted to the Quebec climate in the most frequented locations;

  • The installation of 40 chemical toilets in busy parks and public squares;

  • The creation of a network of supportive merchants opening their restroom facilities to the general public;

  • New signage in public spaces and an interactive online map to easily locate the nearest toilets.

These measures represent a total investment of $8.3 million, included in the cleanliness budget announced earlier this week, and will be rolled out by the end of the term.

Quote

"Having access to clean and accessible toilets is not a luxury: it is a basic necessity for a hassle-free life. When we want seniors to be able to leave their homes without worry, parents to find a simple solution when an outing takes longer than expected, or everyone to be able to enjoy their city with dignity, it requires nearby sanitary facilities. That's also what simplifying the city is all about," said Luc Rabouin, leader of Projet Montréal.
