Avenue du Parc: Less danger, more mobility
Projet Montréal is committed to bringing Avenue du Parc into the 21st century
Montreal, September 30, 2025 – Projet Montréal today announced the complete redevelopment of Avenue du Parc, from Parc station in Parc-Extension to Place-des-Arts station in downtown Montreal, passing through Mile-Ex, Mile-End, and Milton-Parc. Designed in the last century as an urban highway, the configuration of this iconic artery encourages excessive speed, which greatly compromises the safety and comfort of those who use it. Projet Montréal aims to make it safer for all users, especially pedestrians.
The avenue no longer meets the needs of a modern city as it passes through the centers of dynamic neighborhoods prized by residents. It must once again become a safe living space and a hub for public and active transportation in the heart of residential and commercial neighborhoods.
" Seventeen years ago, Montreal turned the page on the Parc/des Pins highway interchange, and today, I am committed to finishing the job by redeveloping Parc Street itself. It's not normal for a street that looks like a race track to run through our neighborhoods: I want to ensure everyone's safety and provide a reliable and efficient public transit corridor. Our opponents' priority, their first commitment, is to impose an 18-month moratorium on bike lanes. Moreover, they have made no commitment to the mobility and safety of the most vulnerable users. For Projet Montréal, it is clear that we cannot compromise on the safety of Montrealers," said Luc Rabouin, leader of Projet Montréal.
A complete redevelopment in five sectors
Parc Street crosses five distinct sectors with diverse realities (Milton-Parc, along Mount Royal Park, Mile-End, Mile-Ex in Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie, and the area around Parc station in Parc-Extension). The proposed redevelopment is an opportunity to review the avenue from north to south, adapting to the realities and needs of each sector, while maintaining certain constants: ensuring the safety of vulnerable users, calming traffic, and making more room for public transit.
A first axis of the Express Bus Network
Improving public transportation will be at the heart of the project with the creation of an Express Bus Network (REB). This new service aims to bring the quality of metro service to the surface, with improvements deployed quickly and at low cost. With more frequent service, even at night, there will be no need to check timetables when planning your journey. With dedicated lanes and traffic lights, buses will be able to get ahead of car traffic, reducing journey times.
This will be a real benefit for north-south travel in the city center, paving the way for a tramway in the future.
