Montreal for Montrealers
A Bixi station within a 15-minute walk for all Montrealers
Montreal, September 26, 2025 — Luc Rabouin, leader of Projet Montréal, announced today a strong commitment to expand access to bike sharing across the city, particularly in neighborhoods that have long been underserved. By the end of his term, 100% of Montrealers will live within a 15-minute walk of a bike-sharing station. By the end of his term, 100% of Montrealers will live within a 15-minute walk of a bike-sharing station.
Today, approximately 80% of the population benefits from this proximity. This new step will help close the access gap and better integrate cycling into a diverse and accessible transportation network. Part of the new offering will include many electric bikes so that everyone can enjoy them.
Local mobility for all neighborhoods
Bike sharing is an increasingly popular service, now used by one in four people in Montreal. It promotes active transportation and is an integral part of Montreal's public transit system, particularly for short trips. With current coverage of all 19 boroughs, the goal is now clear: to ensure equitable accessibility, regardless of zip code. Projet Montréal is therefore committed to:
Add more than 1,000 Bixi stations over the next four years.
Prioritize deployment in outlying neighborhoods, including 15 new stations in Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles.
Ensure the consolidation of the network in central neighborhoods to maintain stable and smooth service.

"Since its creation, Projet Montréal has placed the quality of life of Montrealers at the heart of every decision. Bixi is part of that, and with 15 million trips in 2024, we can truly say that it is a means of transportation that is appreciated by Montrealers. Bixi is part of that, and with 15 million trips in 2024, we can truly say that it is a means of transportation that is appreciated by Montrealers. What we are proposing today is not simply to add Bixi stations: it is to bring mobility services closer to where people live, in all neighborhoods, without exception. Whether you live in Pointe-aux-Prairies, Saint-Léonard, or downtown, you should have easy access to active, affordable, and reliable transportation options. For us, that's what building a fairer, more sustainable, and more humane city is all about," said Luc Rabouin, leader of Projet Montréal and mayoral candidate.
"The people of Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles love Bixi and want more of it. Today, with our commitment, we are taking action. With the arrival of new stations in our neighborhoods, we are committed to taking concrete steps to improve local mobility, but also to fully recognize the right of people in the east to accessible, modern and sustainable services. This is another step toward a more equitable city, and I am proud that it is starting here, in our community," added Caroline Bourgeois, candidate for re-election as mayor of Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles.
A city on a human scale
This project is part of the vision of a 15-minute city, where everyone can easily access essential services on foot, by bike or by public transit. By bringing mobility infrastructure closer to where people live, Projet Montréal wants to simplify daily life and strengthen the vitality of neighborhoods throughout the city. This same logic also guides our commitments to accessible public toilets within a 15-minute walk anywhere in the city, as well as a network of local public markets, so that every citizen can eat healthily without depending on a car.
