Housing, safety, services: Projet Montréal puts families at the heart of its vision

Montreal, October 10, 2025 – Projet Montréal leader Luc Rabouin today presented a series of strong measures to support Montreal families and encourage them to stay in the city. From housing to day camps to transportation, the Projet Montréal team is presenting a comprehensive set of concrete measures to simplify family life.

"To think about the city of the future, we must start by taking care of those who are the future of the city. For too long, Montreal has been at the mercy of large developers following the free market, resulting in too few housing options for families. We cannot return to this outdated model. Our vision is that of a more affordable city that makes room for our families and our young people, in housing, in day camps, in our streets and in our parks," said Luc Rabouin, leader of Projet Montréal.

Facilitatingaccess to family housing

For middle-class families, this means facilitating access to home ownership by expanding the Home Purchase Support Program, particularly to homeowners' cooperatives. This program, established by Projet Montréal in 2018, offers subsidies and tax reductions of up to $7,000 for families purchasing a home in Montreal.

To reduce pressure on the rental market, new agreements with non-profit organizations, such as the one developed with UTILE last year, will make it possible to develop student housing, thereby freeing up scarce family housing.

More affordable and accessible activities

Reducing the mental load on parents is also central to the approach. Projet Montréal is committed to offering municipal day camps at $7 for everyone, with priority given to lower-income families, with more places and a simplified registration system. Registration for swimming lessons will also be standardized and simplified.

Projet Montréal's platform also proposes offering more activities for children of all ages, such as snow sports at Mont des Hirondelles in Ahuntsic-Cartierville, the creation of more multi-sport fields, and the development of spaces designed for teenagers in parks.

Getting to school safely

Finally, child safety remains a priority. Projet Montréal proposes to make the areas surrounding all elementary schools in Montréal safer by 2030. This will involve clearing sidewalks and securing intersections so that parents can have peace of mind when their children walk to school. The party also proposes installing speed cameras in front of every school to limit drivers' speeds in these key areas.

"Families would choose Montréal more if Montréal chose families more. That's exactly what we're doing, with concrete solutions in housing, mobility, and local services. What we're proposing is a city where children can grow up close to their parents and where families of all backgrounds can remain rooted for the long term. In a word: a city that cares," said Luc Rabouin, candidate for mayor of Montreal.
