The Lacordaire Express Bike Network (REV) is a vital project for the safety of residents in the East of Montreal. It aims to make their commutes safer, provide alternatives to driving, and improve the quality of life in neighborhoods that have been neglected for too long.
Yet, despite past commitments and a clear recognition of its importance, the Ensemble Montréal administration has chosen to abandon the project.
This reversal is difficult to justify.
During the election campaign, candidates from the same party even criticized Projet Montréal for not moving fast enough in rolling out the REV. Today, that very same project has simply been shelved.
Meanwhile :
→ Cycling remains dangerous, especially for children and seniors;
→ Residents of Montréal-Nord and the East are deprived of safe infrastructure;
→ The ecological transition is being slowed down, when it should be accelerating.
Abandoning the Lacordaire REV is a political choice : one that slows down efforts to make our streets safer and widens the gap between neighborhoods.
We refuse to accept this step backward.
We call on the City of Montreal and the Ensemble Montréal administration to :
• Reverse the decision to abandon the Lacordaire REV;
• Publicly confirm a clear timeline for its completion;
• Ensure safe facilities for pedestrians and cyclists along this route;
• Ensure equitable development of mobility infrastructure in all neighbourhoods, including Montréal-Nord.
Because safety shouldn’t depend on the neighbourhood where you live.
Sign to defend the REV Lacordaire.
