Born in southeast China, Tan Shan Li immigrated to Montreal at the age of four with her parents. The family first settled in LaSalle, before moving to the Rivière-des-Prairies area where Tan Shan lived until moving to Griffintown.

With a Master of Science degree in Information Technology Management from HEC Montreal, she works in the field of information technology and communications where she provides consulting services to large companies in the financial, mining and government sectors to facilitate their digital transformation.

She has been interested in architecture and urban planning for several years, particularly since she moved to Griffintown, a neighbourhood in transformation. Sustainable development and the ecological transition are also subjects close to her heart. She participates in greening initiatives in the neighbourhood such as planting vegetables and herbs at the Olier Garden, planting vines to green buildings and participating in clean-up events in her neighbourhood.

In 2021, Tan Shan will enter municipal politics with Projet Montréal as a candidate for borough councillor in the Saint-Henri-Est-Petite-Bourgogne-Pointe-Saint-Charles-Griffintown district in the Sud-Ouest borough.
